  1. I’ve been a Cubs fan all my life. Also a Bears fan, not quite to the degree that I’m a Cubs fan, since I’d take baseball over football when push comes to shove. Used to be a Bulls fan, but got disillusioned, and now I can’t really be bothered even though it’s suddenly a good time to be a Bulls fan again. Never really got into hockey, although it strikes me that the age of HD is be a pretty sweet time to be a hockey fan.

And of course, as we all know, I’m a Gator. So that’s me.

  2. Wow…chicago style. So you would be a Blackhawks fan then too?

Have you adopted the Mavs since you’ve been in TX? I like Cuban and all (i even watched the Benefactor!), but I love to see him in tatters when the lil’ 8th seed takes it to his team.

More meta-crazy-funkiness…On Saturday I was at a sound conference in San Jose (hence me being on the 580-880 interchange) and one of the seminars was given by Viewcast (company simplifies streaming video..based in Plano, TX). The guy giving the seminar told a little story about how he used to work for RealNetworks back in the day and one day he had a young guy borrow money from his parents to buy their $100,000 product and use it to start Broadcast.com…sold to yahoo…blah blah blah..everyone knows it’s Mark Cuban. Who was in the area for the weekend to watch his team get outplayed! It’s a small world!

  3. I’m a Massachusetts sports fan myself.
    Red sox
    Patriots
    Bruins
    Celtics

However, I did have a little affair with the magic when they first got shaq, ooh, fun times watchin basketball.

either way, i’m psyched about this baseball season and the patriots are already getting picked to win the super bowl this upcoming NFL season. mmmm.

celtics? let’s get that #1 pick!

Bruins? umm.. uhh.. go cheaper seats?

    joe

  4. Nope, I don’t really do “adopted” teams. Although I do root for the University of North Texas now (the Mean Green!) … girlfriend’s former school, which doesn’t conflict with my UF loyalties at all.

As for the Blackhawks, yeah, that would be the logical choice for me. I tried rooting for the Blackhawks when I was young, but it was just too hard. There was so little hockey on TV, and the intertubes didn’t work then, so all I had were box scores in the paper. Without anything concrete to see, I gradually lost interest, and never regained it.

At any rate, I’m sure as hell not going to be a Stars fan.

  5. Oh…and for me it’s all local…. Raiders, Warriors, Sharks, Giants, A’s…was Earthquakes until Houston stole ‘em….not so much 49ers anymore (since Montana got the boot).
    1. Football
1b. Soccer (if it’s on tv besides telemundo)
    2. Basketball
    3. Baseball, especially if I get free tix from work…June 23rd is my night this year
    4. Hockey if Sharks are in it…They’re in it!
    5. whatever is on during a lazy day…

  6. That’s right, you’re a Raiders fan. Big day for you guys yesterday (er, Saturday).

Real soccer fans know that Telemundo is the only way to go, btw.

Free baseball tix to where? Oakland or SF?

  7. SF. ….I want to go to AT&T park and see the new screen. Everyone says it’s awesome. And if Bonds can cool off slightly in May, I just might be there to witness tainted history!!! Maybe A’s later this year

Real soccer fans…come on…there’s more than the Mexican league(s)!

  8. I grew up playin soccer. it’s quite fun to play, and a good game is always fun to watch (regardless of sport), but on average, I don’t really find much interest in soccer.

But I guess if anything, Go NE Revolution. Almost won the championship last year.

  9. haha. i’ve been a bill simmons fan for a while, haven’t really visited his page since the daily quickie ended.

but yeah, we do have the same sports teams heh, not sure about him, but i’ve never been into any college teams really, New England doesn’t really have the atmosphere for it oddly enough with all the schools here.

If anything, I kinda follow Penn State because of a great friend i met at college.

i’m younger and sexier than simmons anyway, hehe.

  10. I root for the Michigan teams: Tigers, Lions (ugh), Pistons and Red Wings, plus U of Michigan football and basketball. I also root for the Princeton teams since I live so close by and it’s easy to stop in and see their games (for those who read my blog you know I have a particular passion for the women’s ice hockey team–I go to all of their games, even some that are on the road).

  11. And speaking of wishy-washy media, they’re all over the place on my Warriors. They had no chance before game 1…then after game 1 they could possibly win the series. After game 2 they said the mavs could take it all. Then the mavs had no chance after 3 & 4. Now because of the meltdown at the end of g5 Dirk is back in MVP form and the Warriors are on their heels and have all the pressure.
It’s got me so nervous I could chew on my towel.

  12. Yeah, good luck to the Warriors tonight. As a neutral observer that nonetheless has an interest at stake (by way of being a Dallas resident), I’m not sure who I want to win. I get the feeling the series is decided tonight, no? Either Golden State wins, and it’s over, or Dallas wins, in which case they have to be considered a near-lock to win the next game here. Right?

If I didn’t live here, I think I’d be squarely for the Warriors. But I’m not sure I want to endure a year of lame Dallas-style woe-is-me hangdogging. We’re already going through that with the Cowboys after the season-ending Romo gaffe and less-than-inspiring coaching change, and it’s miserable. Well, maybe not miserable, but certainly annoying. And I don’t even like the Cowboys!

  13. Yeah, if they lose tonight I’m guessing they’re dunzo. And if they do lose, then I will liken the end of Game5 to the infamous “Tuck Rule” game between the Raiders & Pats in 2000 or 2001. Once that fumble was reversed, the team could not come together and play like they did previously. And if the Warriors lose tonight, my guess is G5 took all they had…coming back from down 21 to up 9 only to lose by 6 (ending with a 15-0 mavs run) can demoralize anyone. But if they win tonight, they just might have the mental toughness they need for next season.

I say next season because if they win this series they will have to play the Suns (or will they? I’ll have to look that up again)…and that team is faster and full of more accurate shooters than the W’s have. The Warriors match up well with the Rockets and the Mavs. Against the Spurs & Suns, they really look like an 8th seed.

EDIT: Ok..it’s not the Suns. Apparently the Suns are playing the Spurs. I wonder why? Weren’t they the #2 seed? Wouldn’t they automatically get to play the lowest seed if the #1 seed (mavs) are tossed? I need to brush up on my NBA Playoff “Season within a Season” guidebook….

  14. Man … there’s 3 minutes or so left, but I feel safe in declaring this some kind of pathetic. Bask in it, Count. Congrats.

EDIT: It’s over now. Yep, pathetic. I feel like I just watched an affront to the game of basketball. Actually, not just basketball, but competitive sport in general. Just sad.

But, I actually am pretty happy for the Golden State fans. They seem like a fun bunch. And it’s all worth it to see the look on Cuban’s face. I think he brings a lot of good to the table on the whole, but he’s certainly spent the last few years discouraging any sympathy of him, and I’m happy to oblige.

  15. Glad you stayed up! It was so awesome to watch the 3rd quarter just go insane…and the fans. The fans! We’ve been waiting forever…I used to go to games in the late 80′s/early 90′s with my dad and watch Run TMC play….Manute Bol was just freakishly large.
