Still Amazed by technology

Standard

Two items surprised me in as many days:

1. Jam Sessions for NintendoDS. It was released in Japan last December under the name “M-06″ (descriptive, yes?). Yesterday I found a youtube review that a kid (sounds like a kid) from Canada did a few months ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78WsigtCuZw It’s not really a huge technological breakthrough, and maybe it’s just for guitar enthusiasts, but I’ve kinda been out of the video game scene for awhile. I just recently found out that a DS is kind of like a kid’s status symbol…we just bought one for my daughter’s 8th birthday in May and it came with a free subscription to Nintendo Power. When we received the first issue I saw the article on Jam Sessions and knew I had to have it. A strummable guitar in the palm of my hand? I’m all in! The fact that you could take a small device onstage and plug it into a huge amp just makes me giddy inside…geek-chic-coolness. More video

2. Microsoft Surface….I got an e-mail for this yesterday and it was the first I had heard of it. I saw The Island last year and when they guy was moving junk around on his desk as though it were a computer I wondered how much longer it would be before we had something like that. I know it’s Microsoft and all the baggage that comes with that, but they definitely succeeded with their XBox venture. If this product works as advertised this could be huge! Video here.

  1. Surface is fairly amazing. It’s going to take quite a few tweaks before it would be useful in the home, but it should be able to hit the ground running in terms of commercial applications (example: Gates’ restaurant demo).

The good news is that Apple is apparently working on something similar (though, no doubt, slicker)

  2. That is the creepiest thing I have seen in a very long time. I just want to shoot and put it out of its misery.

You could have written this is my glasses post and it would have probably been just as apt.

  4. Too much gunplay from Nick. The world’s gone topsy-turvy!
I’m thinking of buying one in october and selling it on eBay around Christmas for [pinkie in mouth] One…Hundred….Billion…dollars!!!
