Opening in Dallas, 11/09

Standard

Lots going on.  Much to do.  How long can I keep doing this?  Who really cares about Dallas, anyway?

No Country for Old Men (trailer): At least I can take heart in a new Coen Brothers opening. Said to be their best in years. Maybe ever. Must clear space for it.

Lake of Fire (trailer): Tony Kaye’s documentary on the abortion debate. I use the word “debate” somewhat loosely, since this is obviously settled law and conservatives have shown little interest in actually unsettling it, despite all the noise to the contrary. Really, I think this whole “debate” just makes us look stupid.

Lions for Lambs (trailer): Gosh, I’d love to be supportive, but I’ve kind of got things going on, and the reviews have been somewhat unkind. I’ll try to make room for it, but I’m not making any promises.

The Rape of Europa (trailer at official site): Doc about the Nazi plundering of art throughout Europe during World War II. I have no doubt this is a first-rate documentary, but it’s really a bad time of year for this to come out.

Fred Claus (trailer): You know what? Um … no. Busy busy busy busy busy!

P2 (trailer): Well, now you know it’s being released, I guess.

In the Good Old Days

Standard

It started as a minor labor dispute between a studio union and the producers and ended up as the bloodiest labor strike in Hollywood history, and it changed the face of Hollywood forever. It’s a story of murder, intrigue, bribery, collusion and Communist baiting. A cast of characters that include corrupt union bosses, movie moguls, gangsters and trade unionists.

This strike needs some molotov cocktails.
