About Jackrabbit Slim

I'm a cubicle slave that still harbors dreams of becoming a full-time writer. I was born and reared in suburban Detroit, Michigain. I was a Theatre Arts major at Stony Brook University, and worked many years as an editor at Penthouse magazine. I now live near Princeton, New Jersey. In my spare time I follow the Detroit Tigers, the Princeton women's ice hockey team, and I review adult films. My blog is at gogorama.blogspot.com

  1. Good to be back. I think I’ll just continue my standard line of questions through this year.

Alternate realities (plane landing) or past/present/future? i.e. – Are Jack & Co. now on the island in 2004, 2007 or some other time? Did Ben &Co. stay in 2007 on the island or are *they* in a different time period as well?
Why was Desmond on the plane and others (such as Shannon) not?
How many groups of Others did Cindy join up with? Is this 3rd group with Richard’s group or another?
Why does Ol’ Smoky still need John Locke’s body/image?

Oh, Lost, I’ve missed you so.

  2. From interviews with Darlton, what we’ve got is an alternate reality. I first heard of this in the movie Slacker, when one of the characters describes that there are infinite alternate realities, each branching off of a decision. For example–if I go right instead of left, there is an alternate reality that exists had I gone left. It is just as real as the one where I went right.

On the island, I believe that all characters are in 2007. The action at the statue is at the same time as the action in the temple because Richard, et. al. saw the fireworks shooting off from the temple.

I think Desmond being on the plane is a tip off that the alternate reality is not as simple as picking up where it had left off before (Cindy offers Jack one bottle in the alternate, where she gave him two the first time). However, Shannon not being there is a write-around Maggie Grace’s schedule conflict–she was supposed to be there.

Yeah, another group of Others that somehow managed to stay hidden all this time. I think they are all part of Richard’s group, and perhaps the crew of the Black Rock.

Good question about smokey–why don’t others see him as Jacob does?

  3. I read on lostpedia that the “X” is a reference to comic book alternate realities. Some series choose to go in a different direction and brand them with an X afterward.

Great point about the fireworks. So they’re in 2007 and the alternate reality is in 2004…got it.

I’m sure they will explain why some and not others are doing this or that on the plane. If Shannon doesn’t have to be there and Desmond can be, then almost anyone can have a reason for not being there. Will Ana Lucia or Libby need to be there now? Michael, Walt, Mr. Eko? Did Desmond complete his solo race and figured he’d stay out in Australia? Will this ruin his chances with Penny????

  4. Libby will definitely be back, no to Ana Lucia and Mr. Eko (the actor who played him quit the show, so they had to write his death much earlier than they’d anticipated).

  5. I knew that dude was the smoke monster.

I’m back to the whole alien-conspiracy thing. Jacob and smoke monster are two old and bored aliens. And now one of them has killed the other. Although Jacob might be a different kind of alien and smoke monster some kind of advanced sentient robot defense system. Sounds far-fetched but by now you can throw in anything including the kitchen-sink into the show.

Otherwise this was pretty anti-climactic. Juliet surviving only to die twenty minutes later was pretty much a waste of an otherwise good tv-death. Sayid dying and coming back was stupid and probably unnecessary.

Not sure about parallel timelines. So we see what would have happened if the plane hadn’t crashed on the island, only not really, since the previous timeline had the island intact (and Mr Eko, Ana Lucia, Shannon, etc.).
