Hmm. I can’t help but feel this was all retro-fitted. When Adam and Eve were found in season one, did they know it was the mortal remains of the smoke monster and his foster mother? Somehow I doubt it. It just doesn’t fit.
I fear we’re not going to know who Allison Janney was supposed to be, but I want to know, damn it. She made it so Jacob and Smokey couldn’t kill each other. How, exactly? Will we find out why Smokey makes that rollercoaster sound? Or how he inhabits dead people? (To that effect, why was he able to appear in his real form to Richard, but not to the Oceanic 815 folks?) Or how Jacob is able to live for centuries, but then get killed by Ben without much trouble? Who will build the statue? How does Jacob learn to leave the island and interact with other people–namely Ilana. Will all this be answered in the next three and a half hours of show?
This episode is a big uh-oh to me.
Completely agree! With everything – including the choice of quote! I think we could have gone along fine without the “info” in this episode. They’re doing OK with telling us the “what,” but failing miserably at any sort of “why.”
We finally solidified that the boy that Smokey has been seeing is Jacob. OK, great, but *why* appear as a boy? What is this “light” in the cave? What is/was their mother who could kill an entire village and reduce a well to rubble but get taken out by a knife? And why does any of it matter?
And the Adam & Eve reveal? This episode should have been entitled “Shoehorn”
Slim, I’m trying to cover all the bases. I sent you an e-mail and a Facebook message which I’m sure you’ll get before this but I thought I’d post anyway just in case you look here first!
