It’s 30-something degrees here in New England, winter is right around the corner, and I’m thinking about one of the great tragedies of our time: the death of the ski mask.
They’re cozy, they keep your nose warm and they even have the cute little mouth hole so you can drink hot chocolate or scream at people to get on the ground.
It’s depressing that they’ve been ruined by bank robbers and home invaders and 70′s movie terrorists. If I go outside my front door wearing one to shovel the driveway: neighbors foolishly assume I’ m off to shoot an internet beheading video rather than just trying to avoid frostbite.
Criminals wear gloves, too. Why do we still wear them? How have they avoided the stigma?
Would you wear a ski mask if they were still considered socially acceptable?
I want a ski-mask now because you’ve pointed out they’re NOT socially acceptable.
I know what I’m getting tomorrow and I know what I’m wearing after I get it.
I’ve always felt the same way about Nixon masks.
Screw the ski mask, go dressed as a ninja.
They make better ski masks these days. They don’t look as much like the cotton bank robber ones anymore. They actually do look a lot more like a ninja mask and are made of lycra/thinsulate material.
Ever since I moved to Chicago I’ve been wanting something like that – especially since I started commuting last winter. I can layer everything else, but I hate when my face is freezing.
