Predict the #1 film of the weekend.
The one who predicts closest to the total Friday to Sunday gross for the #1 film wins 4 points. Runner-up gains 2 points. Predicting within half a million earns 2 extra points.
Bonus questions:
1. What will be the second highest grossing film of the weekend?
2. What will be the third highest grossing film of the weekend?

Rob sunk my Battleship..guess. Though I fully expect the Avengers ‘hysteria’ to continue, I’m playing it risky.

Yeah…I’ve never seen people I know go back to a movie this many times since Avatar. And before that Titanic. And before that Jurassic Park. I can’t believe how big Avengers is.

Why does Boxofficemojo always have to rain on my AGEBOC parade?
Wrong.
That’s setting the “outright bomb” bar pretty low, isn’t it? If word of mouth is bad, it won’t take much below a $50 million opening to make $100 million overall a tough task. It’s not like the audience for sci-fi blockbusters will be underserve over the next few weeks.
Battleship looks like the early front-runner for our biggest bomb category. It only made 9 million on Friday.
Hopefully I can salvage a half point with The Dictator. Poor Taylor Kitsch… 2 big budget bombs in a row. Triple B’s
Battleship will top out at 70-75M (best case) on a budget of $207M with another 100+M in marketing.
Foreign grosses are ok, though – so John Carter will still probably retain the the crown for a bit longer (being at least 400M in the hole with it’s theatrical run over).
And yes, Taylor Kitsch, poor bastard, is going to be the butt of jokes for a long, long time. I would imagine his days of top-lining studio pictures are officially over (the whopping three months they lasted).
Looks like it’s between Juan and me this week, with a good chance at a bonus for one of us, with Avengers estimate at 55.1. Battleship’s number keeps headline writes busy with variations on “sinking,” as it does only 25.3, but is good for second place. Avengers now the #4 movie all-time.
Maybe Taylor Kitsch can hang out with Brooklyn Decker to drown their sorrows as she had TWO poorly performing openers (Battleship and What to Expect) this weekend. Can’t remember the last time that happened to an actress.
Dang. I want actuals!
Battleship’s opening bust was historic–it is the worst domestic opening for a film that cost over $200 million to make: http://gawker.com/5911813/the-avengers-sunk-your-battleship
I only want to see it more now. I love the blockbusters no one else wants…I feel bad for them, like they’re a stray puppy.
I blame the female Drake, I mean Rihanna.
$55.057m, so Juan pulls off the coveted 7-pointer very early in the game!
AGEBOC will be somewhat delayed today.
