Predict the #1 film for the weekend of November 25-27, 2011. The one who predicts closest to the total Friday to Sunday gross for the #1 film wins 4 points. Runner-up gains 2 points. Predicting within half a million earns 2 extra points. Bonus questions are worth half a point each. Note: we are only concerning ourselves with Friday-Sunday grosses.
Bonus questions:
1. Which movie will earn a higher per-screen average: Hugo (1,200 screens) or The Muppets (3,300)?
2. Will My Week With Marilyn earn more than 2 million?
Because of Wednesday openings, deadline is on Tuesday at midnight, EST.
Standings:
Filmman: 4.5
Joe: 2
James: 1
Juan: 1
Rob: .5
Nick: .5
Jeanine: .5
Jackrabbit Slim: 0
Marco: o
Also, feel free to chime in on your favorite banner. There’s still a few hours for someone to submit another one, but my choice so far is for Filmman’s. Thanks for everyone who entered!

1. What? OF COURSE the Muppets….easily.

Caught a few folks napping this week.

Wait, it’s only midday Wed. Did the deadline get pushed up?
Anyway – my picks, whether they count or not…
Twilight – $37 million
1. Hugo
2. Yes, though it would help to know the screen count
Juan’s jail bait extravaganza
Actually, I change 2. to no.
Sorry, Juan, but as noted in the post, the deadline this week was Tuesday night, as it is for any week where there are Wednesday openings.
And of course I would have won this one free and clear.
Pays to drop by daily, I guess – or else you’ll miss the rules.
Well, that was stupid.
It’s clear that no one will get the number 1 movie this weekend (except Juan, who was too late). I forget what happens in this instance. Do we go with who was closest to the Muppets box office? (Which would mean Jeanine wins).
The bonus questions are both too close to call at this point.
I wasn’t paying attention, and should have known better. I just forget that we’re talking about the #1 movie, not the #1 opening moving.
I hate to say it but I think if no one gets it right then no one gets points. Just like no one gets points for the bonus question if everyone gets it wrong.
As an impartial referee here … in that past when this has happened, whoever is closest on the #2 film wins.
Don’t torpedo yourself, Jeanine. Just quietly walk out the door with the points.
I believe Brian is right. Jeanine will get the 4 points, Nick 2. Waiting for actuals to settle the bonus questions.
Actuals are in:
Breaking Dawn: 41.68 (Muppets was #2 with 29.23)
1. Hugo (8899 to the Muppets 8500)
2. No (1.75 million)
Jeanine: The Muppets – $23 million +4
1. Hugo +.5
2. No +.5
Nick: The Muppets – 37 million +2
1. Muppets
2. No +.5
Jackrabbit Slim: Muppets, 38 million
1. Muppets
2. No +.5
Joe: Muppets $67.890m
1. Muppets
2. No +.5
Filmman: The Muppets: 70 million
1. What? OF COURSE the Muppets….easily.
2. Yes. But not much more.
This is HAGEBOC not AGEBOC, but usually in a “no one guessed the highest grosser of the weekend” situation we did as Brian surmised:
“whoever is closest on the #2 film wins.”
