AGEBOC ’12 – June 1-3

Standard

Predict the #1 film of the weekend.

The one who predicts closest to the total Friday to Sunday gross for the #1 film wins 4 points. Runner-up gains 2 points. Predicting within half a million earns 2 extra points.

2. Moonrise Kingdom expands to several major cities this weekend (see schedule here). Will it rank in the top 9 nationwide this week, yes or no?

  1. I REALLY want Snow White to do well, be good for me to at least some extent I believe, but I have a baaaaad feeling.

It can’t be any worse for you than the studio’s last release.

  3. Snow White $47.2 million

    2) No

Saw Snow White last night. Too long and lacks real charm, but it’s visually impressive and has some cool action sequences. Best part though are the dwarves… especially if you haven’t followed casting news.

  4. Saw Mirror, Mirror on Memorial Day. It was not memorable. Will it generate unfavorable comparisons?

Certainly The Avengers boosts Hemsworth’s stock, but I don’t know anyone who believes that Stewart is “more fair” than Theron. Is that problem central to the movie, Rob?

    SWATH – $44.444m
    1. Less
    2. Yes

  5. Stewart is more fair than Theron.
Stewart is becoming more and more strikingly beautiful with each passing film.

  6. Stewart is attractive, but Theron is unsurprisingly gorgeous and definitely prettier. The movie makes an effort to go beyond simple physical beauty though by making Snow an animal lover. Or something.

  7. Theron hasn’t looked the same to me since Monster. I’ve heard that from a great many people, I’m not sure what it is.

  8. Stewart would be more attractive with a better attitude. Every photograph of her seems to be taking place on the worst day of her life.

  9. Okay, I’ve done some research and in the realm of this film, KStew is strikingly beautiful and Theron is just…I mean, look at her in the photos and in the trailer. So much plastic surgery, it looks like she’s sucking on a lemon all the time. You can cut glass with her cheekbones.

  10. I agree that Theron hasn’t been the same since Monster, but she’s still heads and tails hotter than Stewart, who always looks like a disinterested druggie to me.

  12. Snow White looking at about $55, so filmman’s looking good right now. Between me and Jeanine for second.

  13. Probably something along the lines of, “I bet Snow White is really going to tank.”

Can’t say I blame you, really. Obviously it didn’t turn out that way but it didn’t seem stupid to me at the time.

  14. Estimates are in, with Snow White at $56.255 million. That would give filmman 1st and Jeanine 2nd.

Bonus questions will be “Less” and “No”. Probably I outsmarted myself with the first bonus, because everyone guessed “Less”. But I really thought it might be close – The Secret of Kells and Chico & Rita, other offbeat Oscar-nominated animated films, both opened to far more than A Cat in Paris did.

  15. Actuals:
    Snow White: $56.2 million
