I Wish (trailer)
Director: Hirokazu Kore-eda (After Life, Nobody Knows, Hana, Still Walking)
Personal Interest Factor: 7
Kore-eda is one of the better-known Japanese directors around today, but the only film of his that I’ve seen is Still Walking. Which, to be completely honest, I don’t remember anything about, even though it wasn’t even three years ago that I saw it. I sort of remember liking it, even though obviously it didn’t make much of an impression.
The Intouchables (trailer)
Director: Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache
Personal Interest Factor: 1
Rich disabled French white dude gets a caretaker who – wait for it – is BLACK! And not only that, he’s from – wait for it – THE PROJECTS! I don’t care if they are from different backgrounds, I believe they can overcome their differences and be friends and teach each other stuff! Beaucoup inspirant!
Moonrise Kingdom (trailer)
Director: (The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling Limited, Fantastic Mr. Fox)
Personal Interest Factor: 10
Jackrabbit Slim has already given this a glowing review, and it would be a major upset if I didn’t feel the same way. Wes Anderson is one of my absolute favorite filmmakers working today.
Snow White and the Huntsman (trailer)
Director: Rupert Sanders
Personal Interest Factor: 5
The movie that finally answers the question, “How big of a movie star is Kristen Stewart, really?” It’s interesting that her name doesn’t appear to be billed on any of the posters for the movie, and for that matter, her face doesn’t seem to appear prominently, either. So perhaps Universal is asking themselves the same question.
