  2. A poll conducted by NRG research says a fair amount of people are still hesitant to see TDKR. I read this yesterday, but decided to stay the course with my guess. Have to go with your gut, I spose.

  3. Sorry, I meant the apex.
Sorry, I mean the ‘high-point’? I mean, the absolute best we’ll ever see for modern moviegoing?

  4. The Dark Knight Rises isn’t having a great Friday and both The Watch and Tinker, Tailor, Step Up, Spy appear to be tanking.

  5. TDKR down 78% at this point. The Hunger Games is assured at maintaining the #2 spot for the year as Batman’s likelihood of reaching even 400M is iffy. What a weird year this has been at the box office.

  6. Still, it’s already spanked Spider-Man. Suck it, Garfield – you’ll never be Peter Parker in my heart!

Very depressed about The Watch. I really want Ayoade to be a star.

  7. True re: Batman outgrossing Spider-Man, but did anyone expect otherwise. The bigger story is that Batman is officially Jennifer Lawrence’s bitch now.

Ayoade is gonna be fine. He’s directing The Double with Jessie Eisenberg right now.

  8. BTW, some great lines from Ayoade in this interview with Reuters:

“Cult is a polite word for unpopular, and niche is not something that attracts large investors,” Ayoade said. “Hopefully after this, (‘The Watch’ cast) all learn to be a bit more niche. I think I can bring some commercial failure to their careers, which they’re in need of.”

    and

However, Ayoade doesn’t see himself moving to Tinseltown any time soon, blaming his inability to drive, calling the sunny weather “confusing and unsettling” and saying he lacked the ambitious drive often associated with Hollywood stardom.

“I went to a Catholic school so most ambition was beaten out of me at age seven. Ambition seems to be tied in with some revenge on the world, which I don’t really have,” he said.

  9. Hmm, pending Nick’s posting of a new thread – I wonder if we should just go ahead and make our guesses for this week here?

  10. My bonus streak was broken….tight race for 3rd place!
