How many more weeks? One or two?
Labor Day weekend is usually our last one, I think. Although at this point I just want to be put out of my misery.
Labor Day weekend will be the last one.
Expunables 2 – 17 million
1. Premium Rush
2. Apparition
This has got to be one of the worst box-office weekends we’ve ever had for this contest. At least Cosmopolis is opening here so I’ll have something to watch.
Premium Rush – $13 million
1. Expendables 2
2. The Bourne Addendum
Expendables 2 – $13.5 million
1) Premium Rush
2) Obama’s America
Expendables 2 – 14 million
1. Obama’s America
2. Premium Rush
Definitely. The last week of August / first week of September are always dire – but this weekend’s openers (the two-year-old Premium Rush and Obama’s America) are like a double feature in Hell.
Expendables – 15M
1. Bourne
2. Premium Rush
Obama’s America will probably do well, but it’s on like 900 screens. Might limit a big weekend.
Expendables 2: 14.5 million
1. Bourne
2. Premium Rush
I take back what I said about Premium Rush, reviews are actually very solid for a late August release. I naturally assumed the film was troubled given the long delay.
Premium Rush – $15m
1. Expendables 2
2. Bourne
i think i’ll do as well as if i didn’t guess at all
PREMIUM RUSH is a sloppy, light weight little thriller. Shannon is fun and there are some good character moments, but it’s definitely on the low end of David Koepp’s writing/directing career.
I had a feeling Shannon would be the best thing about it. Excluding Jamie Chung, of course.
You jest, but I’m a sucker for Miss Chung. She shows the most emotion here of anyone, but she also shows off a laughable Chinese accent.
Balls.
Jamie Chung is the reason I’ve been able to watch Sucker Punch 3 times. Jamie Chung is the reason I’ve watched Sucker Punch 3 times. I will watch Another Earth 3 times if you digitally insert Jamie Chung’s face over Tom Cruise’s cousin’s face…because Marling is beautiful, too.
Another Earth was terrific, although it would work on an entirely different level with Chung in Mapother’s role. She made The Real World watchable for a season – that’s an accomplishment.
Looks like every opener tanked excluding the anti-Obama documentary and The Expendables collapsed. I’d imagine that little franchise is dead barring some incredible foreign performance.
If/when you get the chance James I highly recommend EDEN. Saw it at SXSW this year, and she’s pretty damn good in it. A pleasant surprise all around.
Ha ha, Premium Rush comes in at #8 or so. I’m not going to do the research, seeing as how it would be in the service of my own humiliation and all, but I wonder if any of us have ever picked a movie for #1 that finished a weekend that low.
Another Earth was horrifically bad.
Even if it’s not a film you enjoyed, I don’t understand how it could possibly earn a “horrifically bad” label.
This will not be gone over again.
For the sake of the pleasant karma permeating GE right now.
I will only say that, in short, it looked like they didn’t have enough money to pay a cameraman and so they fed speed to a 4 year old, hooked him up with a ‘Fig Rig’ and told him to point it at the people (he failed) and they forgot they did tests with the lens on ‘zoom’.
But, if you wanna hear about the pacing, script, acting, plot holes, logical fallacies and random senseless people in ‘alien masks’, okay.
Boom! Back in the game with 6 points.
Brian gets 2, James and Slim each get half a point.
Congrats Rob! And if by Brian you mean filmman, you are correct!
Actual was $13,423,579 so Brian’s $13M is closer than filmman’s $14M. The important thing though is that my $13.5M is within half a million!
Actually, now that I’m writing it Brian gets 4pts, because he’s 2nd closest *and* within a half million.
I picked the wrong movie, genius.
Must be that dry heat…
Rob just got excited. Understandably!
But I’m impressed by filmman. Dude’s just taking home score after score this season.
1. The Expendables 2 – $13,423,579
2. The Bourne Legacy – $9,336,005
3. ParaNorman – $8,639,288

Damn, deadline is gonna be tight for the last one. Sorry, guys, better hurry with your guesses.
Sorry Brian. Guess I was subconsciously giving you the benefit of the doubt that you’d eventually get something right.
You haven’t given up on me yet, Alfred?
