And we’re back.
Predict the #1 film of the weekend.
The one who predicts closest to the total Friday to Sunday gross for the #1 film wins 4 points. Runner-up gains 2 points. Predicting within half a million earns 2 extra points.
Bonus questions:
1. Will Iron Man 3 have a higher or lower per theater average than The Avengers?
2. Will Pain and Gain earn more or less than 10 million this weekend?
Deadline is Thursday, May 2 17:59 pm (blog time)

Will probably be under radio silence for a few days, so might as well guess now:
Iron Man 3: $177 million

If it can be used as any guide, Iron Man 3 opened last weekend in Australia and had the 7th biggest ever box office opening weekend.
Hahaaa…what is that AGEBOC Superman? That’s great.
Iron Man 3 – $165.432m

Yes. Yes it will.I’ll go with “More” just to be a contrarian hipster (if at first a joke doesn’t succeed….)This is Jeanine’s official guess since she’s unavailable:

Does anyone want to change their guess thanks to Rob’s excellent Iron Man 3 review?
Right. Like rational, clear-headed reviews have any bearing on comic movie grosses. I mean, look at Avengers-what?
Iron Man 3 184 million
1. Less
2. More
Dig the banner, Juan! Considering whether to use it on next week’s edition, or using a minimized version as the “leader icon” for whoever has top score.
Of course I’ll let it slide, but Nick your own post said the deadline was 17:59 blog time and your guess was entered at 21:48! tsk tsk tsk
I like the idea of using it as a thumbnail “Leader” icon..genius!
Haha, damn it! You’re right, Joe.
Foiled by my own petard.
We’re almost all in the general tracking ballpark, which is cool. I’d imagine it will come down to the actuals on Monday afternoon.
If I’m doing my math correctly, this should be the weekend when the Marvel/Disney-produced films (Iron Man+Thor+Captain America+Avengers, etc) outgross the James Bond franchise. 7 films compared to 24.
By next year, they’ll topple Harry Potter and Star Wars (even including the countless re-releases) to become the most successful franchise in film history. If they can keep up this pace for another 3-5 years, I would question whether any film series could hope to topple them from that spot.
A pretty incredible feat for what many, including myself, thought was an overly risky strategy.
I thought it would fail. And is this adjusted for inflation?
Happy for another AGEBOC.I once wanted the buddha idol, (which I got, if I’m not mistaken) and then I just wanted to beat Brian (still very much do), but now I really want to get on teh Superman AGEBOC banner.
I thought it was easily the best of the franchise and best of the Marvel universe efforts. Very high end B+ despite maybe a half dozen issues with logic that you have to get past, but don’t ruin the movie.
And I was certain the Marvel gamble would at least partially fail and now it’s destined to be the most successful of all time. Good on you, Marvel, for taking the risk. Even if your influence will ruin DC and Warners with a disastrous Justice League ;)
It’s been out since Wednesday last week here in Sweden, but am only getting around to watching it this afternoon. Might try a review of it, if it’s worth one.
Looks like it’s Rob, with Brian still having a chance until actuals.
“Does anyone want to change their guess thanks to Rob’s excellent Iron Man 3 review?”
Ha, thanks Joe! I’m getting slammed in the comments section by folks who disagree though…
Those comments aren’t so bad-wait-oh, at least it was only just a few-wait, did he say ‘twat’?
I’m with you,
JoeRob. Not that exciting and a bit meandering. Better than the 2nd one, though. Please, feel free, JS. Would love to hear your points.
Do you mean you’re with Rob? I enjoyed the 2nd one more than the 3rd.
I’m saving more comments for the actual review thread.
And… HOLY CRAP! ROB WITH THE CLOSEST GUESS POSSIBLY EVER. Starts the summer off right with a 7-pointer
Rob throwing the gauntlet early. Nice job.
Boom.
Holy crap, Rob.
The scores and next week’s AGEBOC will be up a bit later today.
