AGEBOC ’13 – May 31 – June 2

Standard

AGEBOC 2013

Predict the #1 film of the weekend.

The one who predicts closest to the total Friday to Sunday gross for the #1 film wins 4 points. Runner-up gains 2 points. Predicting within half a million earns 2 extra points.

Bonus questions:

1. Individually, the Smith boys’ previous films (MiB3 & Karate Kid) earned practically the same amount on opening weekend and overall. Together can they beat their most recent opening weekend efforts? More precisely – will After Earth earn more or less than $55m this weekend?

2. Which will have the higher weekend percentage drop (compared to last weekend’s 3-day) – Fast & Furious 6 or The Hangover Part III?

Deadline is Thursday, May 30 11:59 pm (blog time)

  1. There are some estimating a sub-20 million opening for the 130M After Earth. Unless it has outstanding legs, that would make it the lowest grosser for Smith since The Legend of Bagger Vance or Made in America.

No wonder why Men in Black 4 is on the fast track.

  2. No wonder why Men in Black 4 is on the fast track.

Because nothing rejuvenates a career like the next installment of a steadily declining franchise!

  3. To be fair: the third installment was a mostly successful course correction. Decent critical response (70% on RT, 58% on MC) and the biggest grosser of the franchise internationally.

While another installment won’t “rejuvenate” his career per se, a 600M or so worldwide take will certainly keep him in the game.

He should be kicking himself for turning down Django, though.

  4. Looks like I’ve got this one, as estimates are that FF6 makes 34 mil, and AE will finish behind NYSM (so many acronyms!). NYSM gets 28 million, which I think none of us saw coming.

  5. Yeah, I mentioned it would open soft and be quickly forgotten. The second part likely remains true – but it’s got to be a candidate for “surprising opening of the year”.

    The trailer was effective.

  6. Actuals are in. Update coming soon. EDIT: It’s here! Slim takes the win & Joe earns double his average! Where are filmman and Nick?

  7. Only 1/2 point separates 1st from 2nd and another 1/2 between 2nd and 3rd. Close race at the top! If we don’t hear from Nick guess I will be doing this week’s game as well. Keep a weather eye on the horizon!
