AGEBOC ’13 – August 23 – August 25

Standard

AGEBOC 2013

Predict the #1 film of the weekend.

The one who predicts closest to the total Friday to Sunday gross for the #1 film wins 4 points. Runner-up gains 2 points. Predicting within half a million earns 2 extra points.

Bonus questions:

1. I have no idea why the two seem to relate in my head, but will The Mortal Instruments gross more or less in its first 5 days  than The Golden Compass did in in its opening weekend 2007 ($25,783,232)?

2. Will We’re The Millers drop more or less than 40%?

Deadline is Wednesday, August 21 11:59 pm (blog time)

  1. Wednesday wide release means Wednesday night deadline. Also, this is our penultimate AGEBOC ’13 week. Next weekend is Labor Day which is, traditionally, the end of summer and will be our final week of this “challenge” season.

  2. The odds are in Slim’s favor, at least according to general chatter, but I’m hoping for a horror-fueled box-office burst opening weekend. It helps that YOU’RE NEXT is actually a fun little thriller.

  3. Pretty easy to score here, and 6-points separate the top 2!

    Jackrabbit Slim
    The Butler 16 million +4
    1. No +0.5
    2. Less +0.5

    Rob
    YOU’RE NEXT $19.4 million +2
    1) No +0.5
    2) Less +0.5

I’d love to end it Final Jeopardy style where you have to wager some of your points along with your answer….next year!

  4. The rest of us are Little League compared to the game they’re playing. Just amazing.

I’m strongly considering starting HAGEBOC in early November as it seems like the studios are rushing out some big movies well in advance of Thanksgiving in order to avoid The Hunger Games. Most likely, we’ll be kicking off on Nov 8 with Thor: The Dark World.

  5. Okay, here’s the thing–if no one else but Rob and I play, he wins, because the best I can do is 7, but he will automatically get 2 just for showing up, and I will be one behind. So I think, in the interest of fairness, everyone who has an opportunity should play. Rob will disagree.
