Man, this has been a bad season so far. I haven’t seen a new movie in a month.

About Jackrabbit Slim

Location: Vegas, Baby! I’m much older than the other whippersnappers here, a baby boomer. I tend to be more snobbish about film, disdaining a lot of the multiplex fare for “cinema.” My favorite films: Woody Allen’s oeuvre (up until about 1990), The Godfather, The Graduate, A Hard Day’s Night, Pulp Fiction. Politics: Well, George McGovern was my political hero. I’m also a prickly atheist. Occupation: Poised to be an English teacher in Las Vegas. For many years I was an editor at Penthouse Magazine. My role on this blog seems to be writing lots of reviews and being the resident Oscar maven.

  1. Other than two kids movies (Paddington and Spongebob) I haven’t seen anything theatrically this year. I will be seeing Furious 7 though.

  2. Just It Follows and Chappie for me. The complete opposite ends of the quality spectrum. It Follows is amazing.

  3. Furious 7 is at 800m after 10 days. It should be a near-lock for the top five worldwide grossers of all-time.

Incredible. It’s amazing to think that Universal nearly ended the series permanently in 2006.

  4. So I started reading Ready Player One and watching Black Mirror in the same week (first time on both). What a trip. The two go somewhat hand in hand. I feel like I’ve discovered Dark Side of the Moon at the lion’s roar or something.

  5. Was pleasantly entertained by Ready Player One. Have not gotten into Black Mirror.

  6. Re: Black Mirror – it’s pretty good. I haven’t seen the most recent episode that aired in December (not on Netflix yet), but it’s a thought-provoking show to say the least. S1:E1 & S2:E3 are lesser than the rest but the other 4 are phenomenal.

  7. Saw Ex-Machina last night. Composing my thoughts on it, not sure how I feel about it yet.

  8. I’m doing AGEBOC. I’ve been sick for a week. Turns out I have pneumonia. This is no fun. But I’m ready to start the contest!!
