HAGEBOC 2015 – Week Four

Standard

HAGEBOC

Star Wars made $247,966,675 in three days.  Not much more to say about that other than “wow”.  Hard to imagine that record will be toppled anytime soon, although I’m sure something will surprise all of us

Avin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip opened way below the first three films in the series.  FOX made the curious decision waiting four years between installments, which was probably a death blow given that a significant portion of the audience simply aged out of the franchise.  Alvin, Simon and Theodore will likely sit out the rest of the decade before they bounce back in a 2020’s reboot.

Despite hosting SNL this weekend, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s Sisters underperformed compared to their previous team-up (2008’s Sisters) but I’m sure it will be profitable.

SCORES AS OF 12/21/15:

Marco – 14
Jackrabbit Slim – 9.5
Joe Webb – 8
Juan – 6.5
James – 6
Nick – 5
Rob – 2

While Star Wars will continue to dominate this upcoming weekend, there are six major releases hitting on Christmas Day.  Since it didn’t feel right to shortchange any of them (even Point Break) we’re going to have a whopping 21 points up for grabs (31 with six pointers) this week!  Good luck, everyone.

  1. Rough opening for Sisters, especially with Daddy’s Home right on its heels and with a PG-13 rating.

  2. All guesses subject to change. These are placeholders in case I forget to update due to holiday-ing

    Star Wars – $170m
    1. $17.5m
    2. $10m
    3. $10.5m
    4. $15m
    5. Revenant

  3. Star Wars – $155.17 million

    1. $17 million

    2. $11.5 million

    3. $7 million

    4. $5.5 million

    5. The Revenant

  4. Juan will win this by lowballing, as estimate is 153 million. Revenant wins #5 easily (over 100,000 average!) Daddy’s Home overperforms with 38m haul, Point Break bombs.

  5. Wow, these new scores! Terrific work by Joe and Jackrabbit Slim this week with THREE six pointers between them.

    Joe Webb – 23
    Jackrabbit Slim – 20.5
    Marco – 16
    Juan – 11.5
    James – 10
    Nick – 5
    Rob – 5

  6. Trying to figure out how to handle the next two weeks of the contest.

We’re pretty much done in terms of noteworthy new releases (excluding two expansions: Hateful Eight on 1/1 and The Revenant on 1/8) so I’m considering rolling Week 5 and Week 6 into one post, with points awarded on 1/11. There would be a few long range bonus questions that could be fun as well.

Only Joe, Slim and Marco would play for the title. Guesses submitted by private message on Facebook or email only to make things really interesting.

Does that sound ok to everyone?
