  1. Slight change, folks. Let’s do the full 4 day weekend for once.

    X-Men – 85m
    Alice – 57m
    X-Men Midnights – 5.1m

  2. X-Men: Apocalypse – $92 million

    1. Alice – $77 million
    2. X-Men midnights – $11 million

  3. Alice is absolutely tankng. Going to open to less than 1/3 of the original with a four day weekend, no less.

  4. With actuals, Alice will almost certainly earn less in four days than the original did in one.

Re: X-Men – given the general apathy towards this new installment + poor reviews it’s time to bring in some new blood and thank Bryan Singer for his 16 years of (off and on) service. Directing four entries and pretty much ushering in the modern comic book movie boom is a good run.

  5. Somebody on CNN was blaming the poor showing of Alice on the Depp/Heard scandal. I seriously doubt that had anything to do with it, but who knows? Was it bad reviews? Seems like this sort of movie would be critic-proof.

  6. Original not exactly beloved + 3 years too late + Depp’s faded star power + no Tim Burton + 3D is no longer the white hot novelty it was in 2010 post-Avatar + not well reviewed + a packed marketplace where there’s already something for pretty much everyone.

Waiting six years for a sequel was the biggest killer, though.

I don’t think the Depp/Heard business damaged the film at all, but I’m sure Disney is in panic mode over Pirates 5 next Summer.

  7. X-MEN: APOCALYPSE FOUR DAY WEEKEND GROSS: $79,810,133
    Slim + 4
    James + 2

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS FOUR DAY WEEKEND GROSS: $33,507,621
    Marco + 4
    Rob + 2

    X-MEN APOCALYPSE THURSDAY/MIDNIGHT SHOWS: $8,200,000
    Slim + 2
    Juan + 1
