  1. Star Trek is looking like high 50’s-60. Ice Age 5 and Lights Out in the low 20’s.

RIP Ice Age. People have talked about how brutal 2016 has been for celebrity deaths, but it’s been equally hard on film franchises:

    – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
    – Alice in Wonderland
    – X-Men
    – Zoolander
    – Olympus/London Has Fallen
    – Neighbors
    – The Huntsman
    – Now You Can See Me
    – Independence Day
    – Divergent
    – Ice Age

Now I’m sure we’ll eventually see more TMNT (possibly folded into that weird shared universe thing Paramount is developing) and the X-Men will be back with an entirely new cast and director…but the rest are probably toast in terms of being theatrical series.

  2. It should be said that most of those sequels seemed like winners beforehand and a couple seemed outright desperate (ID, Zoolander).

Probably biggest surprise was Neighbors flopping considering how much of a breakout hit the first one was. I suspect the main reason for that is that people have tired of Seth Rogen’s schtick.

  3. Slim takes 12 points!

    Star Trek Beyond $59,253,211
    Slim: +4, James +2

    Lights Out $21,688,103
    Slim +4, Joe +2

    Ice Age: Collision Course $21,373,064
    Slim +4, James +2
