  1. I’m a total dork for the Alien movies, but I’m not sensing a heck of a lot of excitement for this one (despite the decent reviews). I give FOX credit for marketing the heck out of it, but the product just isn’t very exciting.

I’m still not sure why the studio has been so resistant to making another war film ala Aliens. That seems to be what people want: action with a dash of horror, marines shooting up Aliens. Crowd-pleasing/mainstream. Is that so difficult?

Side note: this is a pretty interesting weekend in that you have two major releases from a single studio. Yes, they’re for completely different audiences – but it almost never happens.

    Alien: 30m
    Everything: 7m
    Wimpy: 10m

  2. 1. Alien Covenant: 36 million
    2. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: 9.7 million
    3. Everything, Everything: 7.5

I think this is going to be an alarming summer for Hollywood. *Very* alarming.

  3. Agree with James on the lack of excitement for the latest Alien film; it had a pretty modest opening weekend in Oz and that was reflected in most other overseas markets apparently.
    Alien Covenant – $28.1m
    Wimpy Kid – $16.7m
    Everything – $8.2m

  4. Alien: Covenant – $38 million
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul – $11 million
    Everything, Everything – $10 million

  5. Snap. In Louisiana for a funeral and lost track of time. For posterity:

    Alien $44.9m
    Wimpy $10.4m
    Everything $6.7m

    (This is Rob.)

  6. What will Alien: Covenant earn this weekend? $36,160,621 Filmman + 4, Slim +2
What will Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul earn this weekend? $7,126,084 Slim +4, Filmman +2
What will Everything, Everything earn this weekend? $11,727,390 Juan +4, Slim +2
