  1. Meanwhile, in other box office news in just its fifth day of release ‘The Dark Tower’ has already fallen behind in daily BO takings ‘The Emoji Movie’, despite opening a week later.

What a misfire that’s been; actually this US summer BO season has been a bit of a misfire to date.

  2. Everyone is taking about the real Dark Tower/Valerian-style bombs, but how about Paramount and Fox with a money-losing Transformers and Apes films? Pixar with their second lowest grossing film ever? Pirates, Alien….

Terrible year for non superhero franchises.

  3. I’m sure I saw a headline somewhere that Ridley Scott wanted to make another six Aliens films. After the critical and financial performance of this one, I’d be surprised if they made another one. It’s done.

Would Transformers have lost money? Despite its dropoff (esp in America) it’s still made $600m worldwide.

Re: Cars 3, who would’ve thought that and Pixar would get comfortably beaten by a film like The Boss Baby (hardly a critical darling)?

  4. Annabelle: Creation – $29 million
The Nut Job: Nuts 2 Butts – $12 million
The Glass Castle – $3.8 million
