  1. Murder – 19m
    Daddy – 22m

Daddy is rocking a 0% on RT right now. Will Ferrell needs to take some time off and recalibrate things.

  2. Murder – 15.8m
    Daddy – 24.3m

Agree on Ferrell, has been stagnating for most of this decade. Daddy’s Home 2 must be pretty bad as ‘The House’ got 16% RT and that was an almost total misfire.

  3. Looking at RT, he hasn’t been in a “Fresh” project since The Lego Movie nearly four years ago. That’s quite a streak.

  4. As to the Daddy’s Home 2 reviews –

    1. Critics hated the first, so they probably see the existence of a sequel as personal affront.
    2. Everyone’s giving it shit for featuring Mel Gibson.
    3. Comedy sequels are usually a significant step down. Almost without exception.

  5. Both Murder and Daddy’s outpacing their tracking. Surprising. But I have to say – I’m fucking delighted a movie for adults like Murder on the Orient Express might hit $27 million.

  6. I don’t know if there’s a Ferrell-starring comedy (not counting bottom of the barrel stuff like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back or The Suburbans) that I dislike more than Daddy’s Home.

  7. The relative success of MOTOE surprises me; Christie films were big business back in the day but they fell out of favour in the 1980s and I don’t think there’s been a cinema-based one since 1988. That there is still an audience for it (apparently it’s been a huge hit in the UK) is a pleasant surprise even if the film itself is no more than solid.
